José Espinho (1916-1973) foi um dos responsáveis pela introdução do conceito de Design de Mobiliário em Portugal. Nos anos 50 iniciou a sua colaboração com a Olaio, notando-se fortes influências do Design italiano.
A partir do final da década de 1960, as suas peças reflectem uma maior presença dos princípios inerentes ao design escandinavo, fruto de uma visita à Dinamarca, entre outros. Nestas peças revela-se uma estética mais modernista e uma procura, ao mesmo tempo, de um estilo mais português e de características mais autónomas.

José Espinho (1916-1973) was one of the responsibles in the introducing of the furniture design concept in Portugal. In the 50s he began his collaboration with Olaio, noting strong influences of Italian Design.
From the late 1960s, his pieces reflect a greater presence of the inherent principles of Scandinavian design, the result of a visit to Denmark, among others. These pieces revealed a more modernist aesthetic and the demand to find a more Portuguese and more autonomous style.
